American Sign Language (ASL) Playgroup

Service Description

Is your family interested in learning American Sign Language (ASL) or expanding your ASL skills? Join our weekly ASL Playgroup! We are offering this 6 week session on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30PM, starting October 11th. Registration includes the whole family. Our ASL Playgroup will be facilitated by Elizabeth Shuler-Krause who is Deaf/Hard of Hearing and fluent in ASL. Elizabeth is also a certified teacher of the Deaf/hard of hearing, as well as a certified early childhood special education teacher with over 15 years of experience working with young children and their families. Children (and adults!) learn language best through play and natural interactions with language modeling and sandwiching (not the kind you eat!). Our ASL playgroup will be a safe space for those at any level of learning to practice ASL while engaging in open ended play in a natural play environment that has been specifically designed to promote language development in children ages 0-6. In addition to play based opportunities for ASL learning and practice, caregivers will have the opportunity to ask Elizabeth any questions they might have about their child's development, educational goals/services, lived experience, and more. Finally, families will have the opportunity to build their ASL/signing community by connecting with other families who are learning ASL! This playgroup is designed for ANY family with a child(ren) ages 0-6 who is interested in learning or expanding ASL skills, and/or meeting other families who are learning ASL. Please Note the Following: -Registration/cost is per family. An adult caregiver must be present and engaged with the child(ren) during the playgroup. -Older siblings are welcome as long as they can be mindful of younger children. -PILEA is a shoes-free space and socks are strongly encouraged. For younger children, you may want grippy socks. -Please leave your stroller at home or in your car as we do not have space for them. -Our entrance is up one steep flight of stairs. -We cannot offer refunds or make ups for missed sessions of this playgroup.

Cancellation Policy

For Birthday Party rentals, we can offer a full refund (minus our transaction fee 2.9%+$0.30) up to 4 weeks before your reservation. We can offer 50% refund up to 3 weeks before your reservation and 25% up to 2 weeks before your reservation. If your reservation is within 14 days and you need to cancel, we may be able to move your reservation to another day. For any cancellations or rescheduling, please email us at info@pileaplay.com
